Today's smartphones boast advanced battery tech and features, enabling swift charging and prolonged lifespan. Yet, Betavolt Technology, a Chinese firm, is pioneering a battery tech that promises not days, but decades of power for smartphones.

Betavolt Technology is developing a radionuclide battery tailored for mobile devices. While typically costly, these batteries offer prolonged life and remarkable energy density, commonly found in spacecraft and medical implants.

Reportedly, Betavolt has crafted its initial model, yielding 100 microwatts, with plans to miniaturize it for smartphones within two years. These batteries harness radioactive decay for energy generation, a concept previously avoided due to safety concerns regarding radioactive materials like Plutonium.

Betavolt's innovation involves a thin layer of artificial diamond acting as a semiconductor, combined with decaying nickel isotopes to produce electricity. The process, confined within the battery, results in no radiation leakage or harmful byproducts, making it suitable for medical applications. Moreover, it boasts a lifespan of up to 50 years and operates in extreme temperatures from -60 to 120 degrees Celsius.
